The infrastructure and supply difference
Natural gas is the most practical option wherever a network connection is available — it needs no storage tank, tanker delivery or stock management. Oil comes into play where natural gas infrastructure doesn't exist, or where a network connection isn't economical; but it requires a storage tank, regular tanker deliveries and stock tracking.
Efficiency and emissions comparison

Natural gas burns cleaner than oil because its sulphur content is close to negligible, which reduces both flue gas emissions and fouling of the heat exchanger and flue.
