For hotels, hospitals, manufacturing plants and multi-block estates — sites that must run continuously or that operate a large number of burners — an annual maintenance contract is the safer model, both for cost predictability and for fault response priority. The right choice depends on site criticality and burner count; there is no single answer that fits every site.

How the two models work

One-off service: service is called out as needed — at a fault, or when the annual maintenance date comes round. Each visit is priced separately, and scheduling depends entirely on the site owner keeping track.

Annual maintenance contract: a set number of scheduled visits, measurements and usually priority fault response are defined up front for a single annual fee. Interval tracking is handled by the service provider — the site owner does not need to remember.

  • Under a maintenance contract, the interval is tracked by the service provider, visits are typically flagged in advance, and measurement records are filed consistently.

Manually tracking the service date of dozens of burners across a large residential estate is one of the most concrete practical benefits of a contracted model.

Sites on an annual maintenance contract are typically placed ahead of the queue for emergency call-outs. The practical reason is straightforward: the service provider already holds the site's maintenance history and burner details, which shortens diagnosis time. This is one of the least appreciated but most valuable benefits of a maintenance contract: the O₂, CO₂, CO and flue gas temperature readings logged at each visit become comparable over time. Under one-off servicing, each measurement is an isolated data point — there is nothing to compare it against.
